On March 15, a portion of the Philippines was placed under Community Quarantine status due to the threat of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. Initially, it was only Metro Manila, covering 16 cities and 1 municipality, that was covered by the directive but soon after, included the rest of Luzon island until the remaining provinces of the country followed suit. This directive includes travel restrictions from, to, and within the Philippines. Flights were limited if not cancelled, seaports almost exceeding its capacity, vessel arrivals and berthing were delayed on top of closures of major government offices due to positive cases within the workforce. Essential private companies were allowed to operate but on limited manpower within their offices as work-from-home arrangement is highly encouraged to limit the exposure of people to infected individuals.

Due to the increasing number of cases nationwide, the government has extended the community quarantine from its initial lifting date. Thus, on April 15, the whole Philippines was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) until April 30. Stringent safety measures were implemented to control the further spread of the virus.
